On my way back to my office from lunch today, I merged onto the highway next to a brand new orange Mustang GT with what I think was the Performance Pack. It looked and sounded quite nice, so I hit up the Mustang configurator. Now I’m irked.
Problem #1: The Performance Pack is only available on the fastback, not the convertible. I like performancey convertibles dammit!
Problem #2: There’s no sunroof on the fastback. If I can’t have a performancey convertible at least let me catch some rays on my bald spot!
Problem #3: The only way to get a GT with leather seats is to go up to the GT Premium, which includes a whole bunch of other crap in addition to leather, for the bargain price of 4 friggin thousand dollars. Then to get simple items like power seat memory or rain sensing wipers, those are each part of Premium-specific equipment groups that include even more extraneous shit. I care about 8 of the total 26 items included with (or exclusive options for) the Premium, which I have italicized.
Selective drive modes
Leather upholstery
Heated and cooled front seats
Dual-zone automatic climate control
9-speaker stereo (instead of the base 6-speaker)
SYNC with MyFord Touch (instead of just SYNC)
SiriusXM Satellite Radio
HD Radio
Bright door speaker, cup holder, air vent and instrument cluster surrounds
Aluminum pedals
Ambient lighting
Premium door trim
Illuminated sill plates
Universal garage door opener
Heated side mirrors with turn signals
Pony projection lights (dafuq?)
Rear diffuser
Assorted options that are only available with the GT Premium: 20” wheels, driver’s seat and mirror memory , Shaker Pro audio system with 12 speakers including subwoofer, adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning and rain-sensing wipers , Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert, Voice-activated Navigation System, Premier Trim with Color Accent Group, 50 Years Appearance Package
The GT with Performance Package is $35,620, while a GT Premium with Performance Package, the few options I genuinely want, and a bunch of other shit I don’t care about, is $42,610.
Stupid Ford overly convoluted options configurations! Not this many things need to be bundled together just to jack up the price. It’s all going to be undone by incentives down the road anyway.

You can’t get cooled seats with the Recaro’s either.

Pretty much everything I’ve read about the Recaros available from Ford makes me want to avoid them, and colored seats are pretty low down my list of priorities.

The sunroof might be like the Cayman: The roof section is too curved to make a sunroof really work.

Someone on here works for a company who reupholsters seats, IIRC they said switching to leather costs 1000$ I would guess they can add seat heaters and coolers too for a fee.

Sure, you can get aftermarket leather and seat heaters on any car. But the point is the factory options mix comingles way too many things together, so if anyone wants a small selection of the available options, they get stuck with all the other options.

Definitely a possibility. Also the reason why I’d always pick a Boxster over a Cayman.

Part of why I chose my 3 over the Focus. Ford packs in way too much crap and jacks the price up. To get a similarly equipped Focus I think was $3-4k more because of the extra crap packages.

HD radio is actually pretty sweet.

The Mustang has cooled seats?
WTF?!?! It’s probably as shitty in performance as the Kia/Hyundai system on their Optima/Sonata anyway

Sure, but I almost never listen to the radio except if there’s a sporting event on when I happen to be in the car. The stations where I live are all garbage.

Oh wait you said cooled seats not colored. But I’d still probably skip the Recaros, they’re apparently not very comfy and comfy seats are very important to me.

I think the pony projection lights, are the courtesy lights that shiny down a Pony symbol when you open the door. kinda awesome actually.

Who cares? It's a bloody sports car! I think the fastback-coupe looks hotter anyway.

I live in the south east. If I pay nearly 40k for a new car, it better have cooled seats.

You sound old, mate. Sorry. And the GT with performance pack isn't $40k. I don't need the premium pack. Actually I would be happy with the EcoBoost with performance pack (under $30k).

Nope, I’m 20, and I want a car with options, so it would be 40k-ish.

Sorry. I guess I see it differently than you. Porsche sells packages that takes away options. The point is to take away weight. But for the performance pack from Ford, it doesn’t really take away weight. But the axle ratio is better, it has better brakes and the Recaros support you for racing/track days.
